Chasing Spring

Look what I got! Swarovski Crystals!

I bought 5 colors with the tinier ones and knew that I wanted to mix them. When I sent the first photo to my friend, she wanted 3 bracelets and for me to mix the colors. Great designers think alike. I decided to make 1 for her as a gift and she agreed but still offered to pay me. I made it clear that it was a gift.

It was right before 2021 and I remembered spending time with my friend at a Lunar New Year event in 2019 or 2020 (so many things have happened since). Because I don’t spend money on the first day of the Lunar New Year, my friend paid for everything. We rode together in a ride sharing service and had lunch at the event, and on the way back, she even bought me a game that my family used to have and played. I offered to repay her several times on the day after, but she declined and said, “Happy new year” with a smile every time.

I didn’t forget her generosity and respect for my culture and practices. When I had the chance to do something like this for her, it reminds me of our friendship and how we have to take the time and effort to nurture it, despite things going on in our lives and the pandemic keeping us apart. When you find good people, make the effort to keep them.

  • "Chasing Spring" is the name of this bracelet. It has a mix of 5 colors of Swarovski beads - aqua, orange, peach, jonquil, and fuchsia. Chasing Spring has 5 strands of colored and silver beads. They are connected to heart components at the ends. On the end of the one-inch extender dangles one of each color of the beads.

I named this style, Chasing Spring, because of the bright and fresh colors that spring evokes. Additionally, it was winter and spring represented a better future. Since then, her future is brighter and continues to shine. She deserves it after a tough year.

Maker’s note: I didn’t intend to make one for myself, but I kept trying on the bracelet to make sure it was the right length that I might as well keep it.
