This week’s flash fiction challenge is hosted at Carrot Ranch.
In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story using the word frozen. It can be descriptive, character focused, action driven. Go out onto the ice and find a frozen story. Go where the prompt leads!

Having been bitten by a snake, Mara, 55 years later, her face still frozen.
Other children didn’t invite her to play with them on the playground. As if eating from a feeding tube, having a petrified expression, and being mute wasn’t enough, middle and high school students were unrelenting. Her doctor and family said that she should be thankful for being alive, but some days, Mara was upset because she was alive.
At 59, she found her tribe in a group of LARPers, excitement and belonging in her eyes.
Words and actions matter. Do no harm. Be the bearer of light.
Thanks for reading!
I can’t imagine. Such a tough existence.
What is LARP, exactly?

Oh D., you’re missing out! LARP = Live Action Role Playing 😀 It’s so much fun! It’s like Civil War Re-enactments but for Harry Potter, for instance.

Yes! Thanks Charli for being a bearer of light. If that can be captured on video, I’ll share it! 😀

So true, my friend. If they only knew how easy it was to shine our light on each other! 😍❤️

Such a beautiful story, that she waited so long to find her clan and shine her light among them.

Exactly. In a sense, she was lucky that she found her clan, since some people don’t find their clan (or their clan hadn’t existed) in their lifetime. We often see that in history with pioneers.
