October 2019 Blog Battle: Clone

Jillian suffers from Sleeping Beauty Syndrome where she sleeps for days at a time. Each time she sleeps, she enters another world. She has rescued children from burning apartments to bullies. She has helped pets from tall trees to finding their humans. She has competed in sports from snowboarding to sprinting.

Her favorite world to enter is the underworld. Each underworld is different, as are the challenges and demons she faces. The last time Jillian entered Porakor, she did not finish the fight, so she re-entered and has set her mind to victory.

Jillian’s clone, Mimi, summoned 10 spirits to defend against a small army of Taegors, colossal demons with melting skin and the ability to absorb their foe’s abilities. Mimi’s spirits aren’t very helpful against Taegors because their only ability is to mirror projectiles back at their enemies. Mimi has been the sole defender by casting tidal waves to slow the Taegors’ advance, but soon realizes that she is cornered.

Jillian arrives just in time. She races to the the army’s tail and hurls handfuls of rock salt like professional baseball players. One by one, each Taegor is a puddle of melted flesh. Mimi and her spirits are relieved to see Jillian defeat the last of the Taegors. “If we step on the Taegor, they will revive and absorb our ability,” Crystal warned, lighting up as she spoke. Mimi and her spirits quickly hovered over the puddles still steamy from defeat to join Jillian to Sipsongor’s castle.

“Sipsongor’s castle is guarded with trap spirits,” Crystal began when Jillian ran and got stuck on something sticky, bouncing forward and back. The trap spirit revealed itself as a giant spider web. Mimi and her spirits stopped themselves before they got caught like Jillian. “They are invisible until they catch a prey,” Crystal said.

“Is there another way to make them reveal themselves?” Mimi asked out of breath.

“Itch powder,” replied Crystal.

Mimi chanted a spell and a field of itch powder rained in front of her. The trap spirits fidgeted uncontrollably before her eyes. Jillian, too, fidgeted uncontrollably, unable to address her sudden itchiness. “How do we get rid of them?” Mimi asked with haste.

“A vacuum,” Crystal replied.

Mimi quickly ordered her spirits to transform into a huge vacuum and sucked everything up. Spirits, Jillian, and dead trees and plants were all consumed. Once everything in front of them was gone, the vacuum spat Jillian out, scratching like her life depended on it. Mimi chanted a spell and sugar sprinkled on her. She stopped scratching.

“For a spirit trapped in an amulet, you’re pretty useful,” Jillian said to Crystal. “Let’s go,” Jillian said to the crew.

They raced to Sipsongor’s castle and was met with two enormous chimeras. “They look hungry,” Mimi said worriedly.

Jillian chanted a spell and hurled cat toys at the chimeras. They were not amused. They chased Jillian and her crew out of the castle. As she ran, Jillian chanted another spell, and placed a trail of tasty wildebeests in the opposite direction of the castle. From above, the crew watched both chimeras were occupied and raced to the castle again.

When they hit the entry way, the crew bounced backward. “There’s a force field,” said Jillian.

“The force field is a spirit,” said Crystal.

Mimi prodded the force field. “What would it take for you to let us in?”

“I haven’t laughed in 3,000 years,” came a thunderous voice. “If you make me laugh, I will let you enter.”

They said various jokes, but none amused the force field spirit. Feeling a lower morale, Mimi had an idea. She chanted a spell and transformed her spirits in a tickle machine and pressed it against the force field. The force field spirit disappeared, leaving its thunderous laugh behind.

The crew scrambled inside. “No,” Jillian said defiantly. They looked up to see the maze walls reached all the way to the ceiling, and from the exterior, there’s another two floors to this castle. Who knows what else is up there.

“I can’t hover above to show you the way,” said Mimi. “I’m going to send my spirits in different directions and I’ll watch with them.”

“There must be a more efficient way,” Jillian said pondering.

Crystal lit up. “Eons ago, I lost to Sipsongor in a battle, and he claimed my sister spirit, Gem, trapping her in his armor as a shield. I can feel her faint presence in her weakened state. Summon kittens to re-energize her spirit.”

Both Jillian and Mimi chanted and repeated their chants to summon hundreds of kittens each time, filling the castle floor until there was no where to move. Their meowing led Sipsongor’s armor to drag him towards the kittens. When they were in the same space, Crystal and Gem transformed to who they were originally – warrior spirits.

“I was prepared for most difficult battle of my life, but it looks like there won’t be any bloodshed after all,” said Jillian. Everyone looked at Sipsongor cuddling kittens.
