This week’s Flash Fiction Challenge comes from Carrot Ranch.
In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about a poisoned apple. Let’s explore dark myth. Deconstruct the original or invent something new. Negotiate the shadows, shed light, but go where the prompt leads you!
While brushing her teeth, Queen Ursula noticed her bottle of poison is missing. In her darkest night clothes, she stealthily searched, blending into the shadows.
Hearing an angry noise, she peered into the kitchen and saw her daughter making an apple cake and the bottle of poison.
The next morning, Princess Fiona surprised Ursula with the apple cake and two cups of tea in her room and said, “Happy birthday, Mother!”
They heard a commotion outside and Princess Fiona ran to the window. She turned around, “Runaway pig,” and took a sip.
“Happy birthday to me,” Ursula said sinisterly.

Well, that was a twist. Usually it’s the STEP-mother who’s evil! Nice job 🙂
