Tanka

Everyone familiar with a haiku? To have everyone on the same page, a haiku is traditionally about evoking the images of nature with 3 lines and a syllabic structure of 5-7-5.  Haiku’s sister, tanka, gives a complete picture of an event or mood with 5 lines and syllabic structure of 5-7-5-7-7.  Both of these types of poems originate from Japan.
